Who and why

Why This Grid Exists

Advice about home Wi-Fi tends to arrive in fragments: a product review here, a forum thread there. We wanted the whole subject on one screen.

A map, not a magazine

Most of what slows a home network falls into four areas: the frequency band, the building, the placement of equipment and the surrounding radio noise. Once you can see those four side by side, individual problems become easier to place. The home page is that territory in tiles; every other page zooms into one of them.

How we write

We aim for plain words and short labels. Where engineering detail helps, we include it; where a figure varies widely, we say so rather than inventing precision. Facts about standards and regulation are checked against the published material of bodies such as the IEEE, the Wi-Fi Alliance, the FCC, Ofcom and ETSI.

Independence

Signalstorflicknestl is run by Signalstorflicknestl Living Ltd, a small independent publisher based in Falmouth, Cornwall. We do not accept sponsorship, sell products or earn commission from links. We are not affiliated with any manufacturer, internet provider or standards body. Brand and standard names appear only to explain how things work.

Limits

This is general information, not professional installation advice. Every home differs. For electrical work, cabling inside walls or anything involving your building's structure, use a qualified professional.
